Car rental: which one to choose and how to read ACRISS?
Renting a car on a trip is not just about convenience and comfort. At least you are free to move around. And by choosing the right brand of car, you can perfectly fit into the environment of the place where you will be. Let's analyze the points that you should pay attention to when booking a car.
The first criterion that you should pay attention to when choosing a car is the purpose of your trip. If you go shopping, you should pay attention to the roomy trunk, for a romantic trip, the appearance of the car will be a priority. If you are for eco-friendly or "green" cars, you need to evaluate whether the right fuel or charging points will be on your route. In hot countries, do not forget about the presence of air conditioning, insecure motorists should choose an automatic transmission, and, for example, in the mountains, pay attention to all-wheel drive, for business trips you will need a car of the executive segment. Having decided on the goal, you can pay attention to the technical characteristics.
In large companies that offer car rental, there is a classification of rental cars by ACRISS. Its purpose will facilitate the work of distributors and customers who sometimes run away from the choice. You may not see it in small rental shops, but in large ones there is a four-letter abbreviation next to each brand. The first letter indicates the class of the car, the second the body type, then the transmission, the last indicates the type of fuel and the presence or absence of air conditioning.
If we consider the classification of the car, there are quite a lot of abbreviations, for example: M (Mini) - mini, which includes, for example, FIAT 500. E (Economy) - economy brands. Outstanding representatives of this class are Volkswagen Polo, Renault Symbol, Fiat Punto, Fiat Panda, Ford Figo, Daewoo Matiz, Chery Kimo, Chevrolet Aveo and others. C (Compact) – means compact cars, their cost is 20-25% higher than economy cars. Popular brands of this classification are Peugeot 308, Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo 7 generation, Volkswagen Golf, Kia Rio, Skoda Citigo, Skoda Fabia, Mazda2, Citroen C3 and others. P (Premium) - premium, for example, Mercedes-Benz E-class, Toyota Corolla, Suzuki SX4, Peugeot 508, Renault Fluence, Mazda3 and others. L (Luxury) - luxury segment, which includes Audi A4, Audi A8, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Volkswagen Phaeton, BMW 7, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and others.
The second letter in the ACRISS classification indicates the body type: B — small two-door or three-door; C-two or four doors; D-four or five-door; W — station wagon, F-SUV, S-sports, E – coupe, H - motorhome. The third letter is about the gearbox. Manual is of the following types: M (Manual Unspecified Drive) with undefined drive and N (Manual 4WD) with full drive. Also, automatic transmissions are divided into: A (Auto Unspecified Drive) without specifying the drive and with full B (Auto 4WD).
The last abbreviation indicates the type of fuel and whether or not the car has air conditioning. With diesel fuel, two abbreviations: D if there is air conditioning or Q if there is no air conditioning. R means that there is an air conditioner with an unspecified fuel. Of course, this is not all the designations that exist in this classification. We have listed the most popular ones. If you do not find a suitable one among them, you can check at the box office what this or that symbol in the abbreviation means, or see all the transcripts on the official ACRISS website. To make it even more clear, here is an example: the abbreviation ECMQ means economy category, 2 or 4 doors, manual transmission, diesel engine, without air conditioning.
